LET'S RIDE !
To visit differently the Vaucluse I left with some friends in a vintage car. Ready for the adventure ? I'm taking you aboard a 2CV from Yes Provence !
Before leaving, I introduce you to Danielle, the white 2CV. She's from 1983 and its old owners used to live in Aix-en- Provence. She's a true provençal ! Today, she belongs to Yes Provence which offers vintage cars to rent (2CV, Méhari and Beetle) in the Luberon and the Alpilles.
Know everything about the 2CV
Produced in the 1950's and up to the 1990's, this car is mythical for french people. For some, it reminds them childhood souvenirs and for the youngers, it is a beautiful time travel.
In a 2CV, no need to look for the air conditionning, it is natural! The convertible roof gives the impression to be closer to the landscape and the sound of the engine reminds us of the old times!
Our day starts in Fontaine-de-Vaucluse where we leave our 2CV along the river to visit the village. The gulf where the Sorgue has its source is impressive even if there is less water in summer. You have to come in Autumn to realise the power of the river. We continue our route in direction of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue but, before, photo stop at the Galas aqueduct, building built at the XIX century to bring the water to Carpentras. Mandatory stop to the Partage des eaus (watershed) where we can admire the canoes and fishermen enjoy the clear water of this river. This location is ideal to spend some time with your family and have a picnic under the sun of Provence. Finally, we arrive at L'Isle-sur-la- Sorgue, a city crossed by multiple canals where water is fully included in its history.
Gears aren't the same and breaks are less efficient. Let's face it, it is a hand to take! After 10min of driving, we are at ease and we take pleasure of this little gem.
Lunch break in Gargas before heading back on the road to visit other villages. The first one, Roussillon, a must see with its colorful houses and streets. The ochre is present everywhere in this "Most Beautiful Village of France". Then, let's head to Goult. We take the picturesque roads through fields and vines, a beautiful landscape to arrive in this authentic village. We climbed to the Jérusalem mill, emblematic monument of the Luberon. This bridge is still standing more than 2000 years after its construction. It used to be allow people to cross the Calavon on the Via DOmitia, only road which went through Cavaillon and linked Narbonne to the Alps up to Rome.
It's time to say goodbye to our 2CV Danielle. I highly recommend you to live this experience once in your life. Renting a vintage car allows to visit Provence from a different perspective.
