Back in time

Today Gordes is very famous in the region but this has not always been the case. To understand history of Gordes we need to back in Roman Empire, the period of the first habitants in this village. Gordes expands in Middle Age thank to a provencal family of Simiane d'Agoult. Attacks, earthquakes, harvest looses and diseases, the life of the village has known a lot of problems. It's only during the 1950's that artists begin to see the beauty of the village. Gordes becomes an inspiration.Photo credit : Yes Provence

The Village des Bories

Formely called « Les Cabanes district », the place testifies old actiivities of farmers. Peasants went to the heights of Gordes to exploit arid lands and escape famine.
Symbol of the Regional Naturel Park of Luberon, the borie is typical provencal hut, we can find them in countrysides. Built with dry stone piled on top of each others, borie is a solid construction which cross centuries.

Visit Gordes with a vintage car

Take picturesque roads cross typical landscape of Provence. Visit the village aboard a vintage car. Drive with wind-in-hair in a 2CV, Mehari or Beetle !
